Kalasan Temple

wasandi - Kalasan located just 50 meters on the southern edge of Yogya-Solo highway, kilometer 14, and approximately 600 meters southwest of the temple Sari.

Kalasan is the oldest Buddhist relics in the area of Yogyakarta and Central Java and was built in 778 AD as offerings to the god of Tara.
Although this Kalasan patterned Buddhist temple, but its founders are Rakai Wamca Panangkaran of Sanjaya that embraces Hinduism, on persuasion of the teachers from wamca dynasty who practice Buddhism.
Kalasan also famous as a beautiful temple highly decorated and finely carved stone. In addition, ornaments and reliefs on the exterior walls coated with a type of cement called vajralepa kuna.
